Welcome to my blog!
My name is Philippe and I am a 26-year-old graduate civil engineer. I recently started the superb adventure that is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie INNOVATIVE TRAINING NETWORK (MSCA ITN).
My name is Philippe and I am a 26-year-old graduate civil engineer. I recently started the superb adventure that is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie INNOVATIVE TRAINING NETWORK (MSCA ITN).
For those of you who don’t know, MSCA ITNs are structured training of early-stage researchers funded by the European Commission. The objective of MSCA ITNs is to train young researchers, entrepreneurs and engineers to face today's and tomorrow's challenges. In the long run, this training should benefit society. In practice, an MSCA ITN is an amazing opportunity to work for three years as a researcher, get a PhD, collaborate with companies and universities across Europe, develop technical and interpersonal skills… and last but not least this comes with a competitive salary!
My ITN is called SMARTI (Sustainable Multi-functional Automated Resilient Transport Infrastructure). Follow this link to our website to get more information about the programme.
I am starting this blog to document my journey into the next three years of this project. I hope that my posts will inspire young and older graduates to follow this path because ITNs are lifetime opportunities that they can benefit from.
In the future, I will try to write a post (once a month) about the progress of the project: events, lessons learned, work trips, but also my difficulties. Some posts will also take the form of articles covering my areas of interest: Transportation asset management, Risk, Resilience, Decision-support tools, Policy, Sustainability and Smart infrastructures. I will try to write both in English and French (my mother tongue) to reach a wider audience (we will see how that goes ^^).
In the next post, I will properly introduce my project. Spoiler alert! It revolves around transportation infrastructures (lol).

Je m’appelle Philippe, j’ai 26 ans et je suis ingénieur diplômé en génie civil. Je commence une superbe aventure : un réseau de formation innovant du programme Marie Sklodowska-Curie (en anglais ITN pour Innovative Training Network).
Ces réseaux de formations financés par la Commission européenne visent à former des jeunes chercheurs, entrepreneurs et ingénieurs à affronter les défis d’aujourd’hui et de demain, à transformer savoir et idées en produits et services au profit de l'économie et de la société.
En pratique, c’est une opportunité incroyable de travailler en recherche, collaborer avec des entreprises et des universités dans toute l’Europe, préparer une thèse doctorale, développer des compétences techniques et interpersonnelles…et le tout avec un salaire compétitif !
Mon réseau s’appelle SMARTI (Sustainable Multi-functional Automated Resilient Transport Infrastructure). Notre site internet n’est disponible qu'en anglais, mais pour faire simple la vision du programme est de créer des infrastructures de transport intelligentes, multifonctionnelles, résistantes aux chocs et en accord avec le développement durable.
Je commence ce blog pour documenter ma progression au cours de ce programme. J’espère que mes articles inspireront des jeunes et moins jeunes diplômés à rejoindre des ITNs parce que ce sont des opportunités uniques qui peuvent leur apporter énormément.
À l'avenir, j’essaierai d’écrire un poste par mois sur mes découvertes, voyages et difficultés. Ce blog contiendra aussi des articles qui couvriront mes centres d’intérêt professionnel : management des infrastructures de transport, analyse des risques, résilience, outils d'aide à la décision, réglementation, développement durable et infrastructures intelligentes.
